Why I Started Aroma Bay?
-A Personal Journey from Fragrance Lover to Artisan Parfumier & Chandler
My journey into luxury handmade candles and home fragrance began with something very personal -I wanted to create products I could actually enjoy in my own home. For years, I loved beautifully scented candles and room fragrances. But over time, I began noticing something wasn't quite right. After lighting certain candles or using store-bought room sprays, I would develop severe migraines that could leave me bedridden for days. At first, I had no idea what was causing them. After numerous visits to my doctor, I was advised to keep a detailed list of the products I was using and eliminate them one by one to try to identify the trigger. What I discovered surprised me. Candles and room fragrances were consistently among the products I found difficult to tolerate — including some of the most popular and expensive brands available in Australia.
That discovery sent me down a rabbit hole of research. I began learning everything I could about candle waxes, fragrance oils, essential oils, ingredients, fragrance composition and the art of candle making. I became particularly interested in understanding exactly what went into the products we bring into our homes and how different ingredients could affect the overall fragrance experience. At the time, finding beautifully scented candles made with the types of waxes and fragrance ingredients I was looking for was not always easy — and many of the options I found were expensive. So, I decided to make my own. What began as a personal mission quickly became a passion.
I fell completely in love with the art of candle making and fragrance blending — experimenting with different waxes, learning how fragrance behaves, developing scent combinations and discovering how something as simple as fragrance can transform the atmosphere of a home. Before long, my little experiment had grown into something much bigger. Aroma Bay was born.
Today, every Aroma Bay creation is a reflection of that original journey. I carefully select premium ingredients and use quality waxes, *phthalate-free fragrance oils and essential oils to create sophisticated fragrances that are beautifully crafted and made with intention. Our products are handcrafted to order in small batches in Cairns, Queensland, rather than mass produced. This allows me to personally oversee the process from fragrance blending through to the finished product, and provides customers with the finest quality candles, mists and fragrance products.
While Aroma Bay has grown far beyond the candles I originally made for myself, one thing hasn't changed: I still make our products with the same care I wanted for myself when this journey began. I understand what it's like to love fragrance but feel that you have to be careful about the products you bring into your home. I also understand the desire for something that feels luxurious, smells beautiful and is made with care. That's why I'm passionate about creating fragrance products that combine beautiful scent, quality ingredients, thoughtful craftsmanship and affordable luxury.
